really good ranch
hi friends, lovers & people probably related to me —
105 — i haven’t finished the bear yet, please don’t talk to me. but i have seen the episode with all the restaurants & i love it
in elementary school i would write mystery stories that took place in hidden valley (yes the town on the ranch dressing packet)
this is not the ranch you make to dress a salad, those are herbier, drippier, remarkably green. this is the ranch you make to dip things in: french fries, carrots, pizza, potato chips, etc. perfect for a bbq, a casual gathering, for anytime. it’s tangy, zesty and tastes like the kind you get from jet’s in a squeeze bottle. if you are looking for other things to make over this long weekend, go somewhere else — just kidding, may i recommend: a smashburger party, buffalo bbq chicken tendy salad, watermelon explosion salad, & carne asada tacos.
ingredients
1 & 1/2 cups of buttermilk (regular milk + 1 tablespoon of white or apple cider vinegar)
1 cup of mayo (hellmans)
1/2 cup of sour cream (daisy)
1 hidden valley ranch dressing packet
salt
steps
1st a large liquid measuring cup pour 1 & 1/2 cups of milk, then add a large tablespoon of white or apple cider vinegar. let thicken for a minute (then you have to drink it) pour into a blender, add the 1 cup of mayo, 1/2 cup of sour cream & 1 hidden valley ranch dressing packet + a lil salt. (these are not the instructions on the packet, which i don’t understand why — bc this ranch is so much better than the one you make with their instructions). blend together — taste to make sure it’s all incorporated. put in the fridge to chill.
2nd make/prep whatever you plan on dipping in the ranch. it’s okay if you don’t know yet and still have to go to the store. we did a variety of veggies & some leftover grandma style pizza that was half sausage & giard, half kale artichoke — it was great + felt like summer camp.
particularly good things i consumed recently
fall out boy @ wrigley — oh man i wish chicago was real
a lil wine tasting party @ allison & billy’s — lovely way to spend a v. hot friday — so many snacks so many laughs
summerfest w/ the molly, megs, bren & bob for noah kahan — we missed you bridge!
these shorts seem like fun & also like the embodiment of summer
em’s birthday dinner — vodka pasta, big italian sal & some bang bang cookies (ofc) —lovely way to spend a monday evening
a nice tuesday night tasting wine @ diversey w/ kiera — there was pizza & then a couple of nightcaps @ billy sunday — get the anne’s garden
last dos, ordered for pickup after a long wednesday (dips trio, wings, carne asada quesadilla) — almost cried walking out. good bye to one of my favorite solo dinner spots, catching up with girlfriends spots, taking dates i like spots.
lonesome + normal gossip live w/ kate (not california kate, maybe baby kate) — such a good time!
taqueria el perez in oak lawn w/ megs & molly — everything was so freaking good but they have a burrito that has carne asada & a whole chile relleno inside.
the guest — emma cline — incredible writing, remarkable sense of dread
currently consuming
stuck in the suburbs for a few days with megs & molly — have we watched the parent trap? yes or yes, have we watched a lot of law & order yes or yes? did we already have los yes or yes?
