111 — two days of wearing sweaters and suddenly i am a brand new person
trying to make tomato girl fall happen
i might have bought too many tomatoes a couple of week ago and couldn’t possible eat all of them — so i roasted them with a shit ton of garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes, till they were bursting. but also it’s fall now and that means we are shifting into soup mode.
ingredients
mini tomatoes — 2 pints at least
kale
shallot
garlic
olive oil
salt & pepper
red pepper flakes
parm
hot italian sausage
mini gnocchi
crispy crunchies
lemon
steps
1st roast all the tomatoes w/ 7-8 cloves of garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper & olive oil. low & slowly to get them really jammy and bursty. once done — blend till smooth.
2nd in a large dutch oven or other heavy bottom pot, add a drizzle of olive oil — soften a finely chopped shallot, then crisp up a couple of links of hot italian sausage till the crumbles are crispy and cooked through (i’ve been buying these @ the fresh market on western and they are incredible and so fennel(y))
3rd add the smooth roasted tomatoes to the pot with a cup or so of water, and a little extra salt & pepper. let simmer — and finely chop your kale into ribbons. also if you don’t have any crispy crunchies lying around this might be the time to make some (toast panko breadcrumbs in a skillet with olive oil, garlic, salt + pepper — when almost toasted add parmesan and stir to make little clusters — take off the heat and sprinkle with flaky salt). taste the soup see if it needs anything. add whatever it needs.
4th add the mini gnocchi these will float the top once they are done, but you can always sneak one to taste if you want i wont tell, add the kale to lightly wilt. spoon into shallow bowls. top with parmesan, crispy crunchies, a drizzle of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon & some cracked black pepper. eat as many bowls as you want!

consolation kopps in mke after dropping from the marathon @ mile 15 (rolled my ankle @ 7 & never got over it v. frustrating & kinda sad) is the custard flavor malted peanut butter pleasure the cure for everything? maybe.
annual au cheval w/ kaitlyn — we got seated instantaneously & got to watch them make cheeseburgers — absolute dream, really just love how they put pickles on the burger & also give you a side pickle for a snack
janel’s birthday dinner — there was vodka pasta, there was charred broccolini w/ lemon, there was garlic bread & red wine & topo chicos & an ice cream cake + a lil amaro. cheers to 30 being the best decade yet!

a cozy weekend in the burbs celebrating meg meg turning 21. has there been aperol spritzes, italian pot roast, risotto, roasted veggies & an ice cream cake? yes definitely. is everyone wearing purple, maybe? are we going to los + tjmaxx — yes, later of course
